High School Detective Design Document


Concept:

       High School Detective is a challenging and addicting mystery solving game with fantastic artwork and an intriguing story.

Story:

       High School Detective is a hidden object mystery solving game about a young boy named Carlos Garcia, who inspires to be a detective, he is out solving mysteries given by his local community.
       For the first case, Carlos is confronted by the neighborhood bullies and is teased for his detective antics, so the bullies challenge Carlos to solve the mystery of the haunted mansion, however, the bullies are involved and are out to surprise Carlos as he adventures to see what lurks behind the doors of the mansion.

Objective:

       The objective is to find hidden objects that will allow the player to unlock new areas and progress through the story as they continue to solve many mysterious cases.
       For the first case, the objective is to find certain hidden objects to combine to unlock the mansion, when the player unlocks the mansion case 1 will end and case 2 will begin.

Rewards/Achievements:

       The player will witness a fantastic story and art work as they progress through each level.
       There are collectibles within each case, these collectibles unlock an achievement for the player, and if the player collects a certain amount they will unlock a bonus case.

Characters:

       The main character is Carlos Garcia, a young detective in his neighborhood. This is who the player is, however the game is in first person and the only time you will see Carlos is during a dialogue/cut scene.
       The bullies are characters that will pop up in the first dialogue/cut scene with Carlos. They are the ones to intimidate and persuade Carlos to take on his first case.

Game Environment:

       In the first case, there are three environments, a haunted mansion, a basement and cemetery. All in which the player can access provided they have the correct hidden objects to unlock the areas.
       These environments will be set at night and so will appear eerie and mysterious.

Game Objects:


       The player is able to interact with hidden objects as well as collectibles. The player is able to combine certain objects to create a new object that will allow them to unlock new areas and help progress through the story.

Platform:

       Compatible for PC and mobile devices.
       This will allow for a wider audience.

Target Audience:

       For 12 year olds and over.

Mechanics:

       Menu: Buttons, directing the player to the appropriate screen.
       Inventory system: The player is able to view and interact with the hidden objects found and in their inventory and also combine them by dragging objects on top of one another.
       Game environment: The player is able to interact with the hidden objects and doors to unlock areas.
       In-game pause menu.
       When the player hoovers over an object, it will give a slight glow to indicate it can be interacted with.
       When objects are found a brief text will pop up to give a description of the object.

Game Interface:

       The Interface will be a sleek design with lace textures that will have white bold text to compliment the colour scheme and making it easier for the player to see.

Audio:

       Menus: An upbeat, mysterious music will play.
       Game environments: The music will change to an eerie sound.

Language:

       The game will be presented in English only.
